Cook & Book: Mexican Holiday Dishes with Surprising Jewish Origins

Cook & Book: Mexican Holiday Dishes with Surprising Jewish Origins

Several of Mexico’s best-known dishes have Jewish origins from various immigration waves from Syria, Eastern Europe, and the Balkans. Varina’s own Cristina Ramirez, who is both Mexican and Jewish, will introduce the idea of Jew-Mex, or Jewish-Mexican cuisine. In this program, we will learn about the 500-year history of Jews in Mexico and their influence on typical dishes such as buñuelos, cocido, and pan de semita.
