Black History Month Film Festival

Black History Month Film Festival

In January 1972, Aretha Franklin joined with the choir at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Watts, and Amazing Grace, the live gospel album that resulted, became her personal best-seller, as well as the genre's. Amazing Grace (2019, G, 87 min.) is a documentary that chronicles the performance. Shot by Sydney Pollack, the movie was tied up in litigation for over 40 years. This restored presentation provides the Queen of Soul at the height of her powers.

This program is offered as part of the library's commemoration of Black History Month. View additional programs in this series.
