Berthe Morisot and the Impressionist Image of Women

Berthe Morisot and the Impressionist Image of Women

In this featured All Henrico Reads event, Jeffrey Allison from the VMFA will highlight the extraordinary talents of Berthe Morisot who carved a career for herself out of the male-dominated world of 19th century Paris. She was one of only a few women who exhibited with both the Paris Salon and the highly influential and innovative Impressionists. Through Morisot's depictions of the world of the French bourgeoisie, modern viewers will experience the daily lives of the rising middle class in 19th century Paris. This program is supported in part by the Paul Mellon Endowment and the Jean Stafford Camp Memorial Fund.

This event is part of our program series in support of All Henrico Reads with Ruth Reichl, sponsored by the Friends of Henrico County Public Library, and also part of our commemoration of Women's History Month.
