Historically Speaking: Experiences of Virginia's Mennonites and Dunkers During the American Civil War

Author and public historian Karl Rhodes explores the response of Mennonite and Dunker families in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley to participation in the Civil War. Inspired by his great-great-grandmother's role in establishing an Underground Railroad for religious objectors, Rhodes conducted extensive research on the topic for his book, Peggy's War. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Sponsored by the Friends of HCPL, and presented in partnership with the History Division of Henrico County Recreation and Parks.
