"It Comes to Life!" Hollywood's Mummies

Ancient Egypt, and specifically mummies, have offered highly creative inspiration for feature films. This presentation by Trent Nicholas, Film and Media Resources Coordinator at the VMFA, will provide a film history background on the art, exploring characteristics of this sub-genre and attitudes towards "exotic" views of Ancient Egyptian culture. Excerpts from the 1932 film The Mummy starring Boris Karloff will be shown during the lecture. This program has been organized by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and is supported, in part, by the Paul Mellon Endowment and the Jean Stafford Camp Memorial Fund.
